Next Wednesday will be Africa Day and this year Hackney celebrates with Africa Week Dalston; a week long festival showcasing the sights and sounds of the local African community. Dalston’s favourite spots will play host to a week long programme of music and culture from Friday 21st to the 27th May.
Highlights will include food and live music in Gillett Square, Nigerian Fuji music at Moonshine Lounge, domino and gaming competitions, a Zimbabwean play at the Arcola, a South African Jazz Jam at the Vortex and much more.
In support of the festival Bonafide will be announcing the winner of an African-roots music competition organised by Hackney Roots. The winner will get a chance to perform at the Hive in Dalston next Friday 27th, alongside Senegalese act Abdoublaye Samb and Minnjiaraby, and Congolese party starters Kasai Masai.
And it’s not too late to take part – for more information, please send your contact details and a clip that best represents you in action to firstname.lastname@example.org Tuesday 24th May. The winner will be selected and announced by Bonafide on Weds 25th.
