Connie Constance has style in abundance. But it’s the quality of her music and the distinctiveness of her voice that will secure her status. Subtly husky and full of emotion, it carries futuristic soul tracks with ease when many are largely beatless affairs.
After moving to London when she was 16 to study dance, Connie shifted disciplines and focused her efforts toward becoming a singer-songwriter. She’s currently managed by Black Acre Records – a maverick label who assert they have “genre-phobia”. Despite this, they manage to weave a common thread with a roster of electronically-minded artists and can lay claim to having released early tracks from Romare, Dark Sky, Fantastic Mr Fox, and Clap! Clap!.
Alongside long time collaborator Blue Daisy, Connie Constance is in good company and getting attention in all the right places; Let Go was nominated for Gilles Peterson’s Track of the Year at his World Wide Awards. With a smattering of EPs and singles to her name, personality for days and an absolutely gorgeous voice, we’re waiting on an album.
