Prolific Bristolian artist, Tricky is releasing his 13th studio album. Similarly to Jay-Z’s 13th opus, the ambition here appears to be finding a place of musical inner-alignment. Titled ununinform, it catapults Tricky to an unfamiliar place of happiness and tranquility through confronting themes of family and mortality.
Before the album release on his label False Idols via !K7 (22nd of September) Tricky has gathered a remix EP of the two lead singles. Reworks coming from Kahn, FaltyDL and The Heatwave.
Here, Bonafide readers are privy to the remix of When We Die by dancehall and bashment act The Heatwave. Stepping out at a brooding 95bpm the modest simplicity, steady percussion and sensuous vox from long time collaborator Martina Topley-Bird keeps the joints of this moody machine, loose, oiled, and extremely listenable.
In Gabriel from The Heatwave’s own words on Tricky; “His music had a big impact on me as a teenager and he’s a brilliant example of a ground-breaking, genre-defying, Jamaican-influenced British MC.” Agreed.
Listen to this excellent remix below and look out for the full album next month.
