The All: Smif-N-Wessun return with new LP

Words: Mina Suder

Tek and Steele, better known as legendary New York group Smif-N-Wessun, are back with their new album The All. On its lead teaser single Testify, the pair reflects on the weight of their legacy, the passing of their friend and fellow Boot Camp Clik member Sean Price, the current status of hip hop and their place within it.

Having already worked with heavy weight New York producers Da Beatminerz on their seminal debut album Dah Shinin’ and more recently Monumental, their collaborative album with Pete Rock, the duo calls on the soulful sounds of 9th Wonder and his collective The Soul Council for their latest serving.

Alongside S-N-W’s stripped back performance on NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert last year, the blend of their gritty delivery and The Soul Council’s instrumentality and sample rich production on The All is sure to fulfil the nostalgic impulses from older fans, but also appeal to a younger audience.

The All is available to buy and stream here from Duck Down Records, and includes guest appearances from Raekwon, Rick Ross, Rapsody and Musiq Soulchild.
