Prepare to lose yourself amongst the hypnotic sounds, textures and visuals of Chilean producer Ricardo Tobar‘s Parques, taken from the After The Movie EP, out now on MUSAR Recordings.
Consisting of three tracks plus a remix from Plaid (Warp Records), the songs within hold some significance for Tobar. “This EP is quite special to me because it reflects a long timeline in my work,” he says. “The After The Movie track had been in the vault for ages until David from MUSAR found it in an old podcast; it really takes me back to those first steps in recording music.”
The second track, Regain Your Power, also channels recent social unrest in Chile. “The mixture of ideas and feelings on this EP have a politically charged spirit, as electronic music always does. A few weeks after I finished Regain Your Power, the whole Chilean social explosion took place with the same ideals I had in mind when recording the track.”
The video for Parques was created by Adam Marshall (DSMV) using caustic imagery of the legendary Atacama Desert in Northern Chile. Processed, stripped, looped and upgraded – Adam calls the 10-minute sequence ‘a spectral miasma of arid mythologies’.
