30 Years of Public Enemy at Chip Shop Brixton

Back in 2015, Bonafide Magazine paid a visit to the freshly opened Chip Shop Brixton to see what all the fuss was about.

We gave it a glowing review for both the food and the ethos. Our writer was truly surprised that it wasn’t the cliche that he had expected it to be. Back then owner Michael had spoken of using the restaurant to host small DJ sets, Q&A sessions and other community events. So we kept an eye on their progress and are damn pleased to report that Chip Shop has turned out to be a lot more than it first promised.

In the last two years Chip Shop has truly become an authentic temple of old school Hip Hop. Not just offering DJ sets, but also hosting big names from both sides of the pacific in its intimate capacity confines; London Posse, Cormega and Lord Finesse to name just a few.

This Saturday they will be hosting what promises to be one of their biggest night yet, a celebration of 30 years of Public Enemy. The line up will bring together US vets DJ Lord (Public Enemy) and Craig G (Juice Crew) together with UK vets Rodney P and Skinnyman plus a host of unnamed specials guests. While we’re not going to make any guesses as to who might show up, we do know that there are a fair amount 90s legends present in London this weekend… Expect hype inside and cyphers on the street outside.

Chip Shop has a capacity of only 100 people. See if you can cop one of the last few tickets here or check out Chip Shop on Facebook.
