Manchester-based soul singer Akemi (a-kay-me) Fox has a number of strings to her bow, and isn’t afraid to plough out her own direction in alt-RnB and beyond.
Her recent collaboration with Moby brought her voice to new sets of ears, and newest single Distraction is a hazy, garagey delight.

Akemi Fox – Songs That Influenced Me
Frank Ocean – Pyramids
Channel Orange was the first album I bought on iTunes and I fell in love with all the songs. Pyramids hooked me, it’s like three songs in one song. It taught me ways I can switch up melodies in my songs.
Beyoncé – Me, Myself & I
Dangerously In Love was the first album I had in physical. This song got me in my feelings when I was younger, as if I was going through a breakup. Beyoncé’s voice is just always inspiring to me, I definitely don’t sound like her but she’s always inspiring to me.
Hiatus Kaiyote – Fingerprints
They’re just such a cool band with such interesting lyrics, teaching me to think outside the box.
Amy Winehouse – Half Time
Amy Winehouse’s voice was out of this world and her lyrics were humorous but also somber. Her songs always intrigued me and made me fall in love with music.
Daughter – Smother
I love this band. Their lyrics always struck me and inspired a chill mess, indie edge to the early songs I wrote.
