Gold Kanye West statue appears in Hollywood

As we’ve all come to learn, Kanye West does whatever the bloody hell he wants, so it comes as little surprise that in his latest publicity stunt he’s chosen to be depicted as none other than Jesus.

The life-size gold sculpture has appeared in LA, showing West crucified with a crown of thorns and nails in his hands but without a cross. It’s called “False Idol”, and was made by L.A. street artist Plastic Jesus in collaboration with Ginger, the artist responsible for the nude Trump sculptures that popped up in major cities last summer.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Plastic Jesus said, “[West is] a genius at writing and producing but he’s not a God, and that’s where we put him. Until there’s an issue in his life or a hiccup in his career, then we crucify him.”

He went on to say: “By all means, treat and respect these people are artists, but don’t make them into gods—because we crucify our gods.”

The statue is on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. On 24th February it will appear at Plastic Jesus’ exhibition with Billy Morrison called Anesthesia: The Art of Oblivion.

Oh, and West’s statue is also wearing a pair of his Yeezy Boost 350 sneakers. Fashion never sleeps.
