This new 45 sees a Caribbean-infused piece of irreverent Latin jazz on each side – Juicy traverses steel pan, acoustic piano and congo while flip side Aprende is a track of two halves, beginning as an instrumental before Alex jumps on the mic to reflect on his childhood in Caracas – “when I was a kid, the oldest skaters, those who did all the tricks, used to tell us, ‘to learn, you have to fall’“.
Alex’s ‘one-man funk band’ builds on the success of his Fumaça Preta and – more recently – Conjunto Papa Upa projects, plus a stint playing percussion for Turkish psych crew Altin Gün.
