Premiere: Daedelus and Joshua Idehen Drop First Track From New Collaboration

Daedelus, one of the most innovative and well-respected producers of recent times and known for their work on Brainfeeder, Ninja Tune and Warp, meets the unique talent of poet and MC Joshua Idehen (who’s worked with The Comet Is Coming and Sons Of Kemet) for a joint project on UK label Albert’s Favourites.

The mini-album, Holy Water Over Sons, sees the pair collaborate over a series of poems where Joshua contemplates life as a Black man, and protest, over eight tracks of electronic exploration.

The pair worked together remotely with Daedelus in Boston and Joshua in Stockholm, kicking off in January 2020 with a course correction forced by the global focus on the Black Lives Matter movement after the death of George Floyd.

We are living in a dark timeline”, Joshua says. “It felt dishonest not to speak on what I was feeling, watching everything unfold in the UK and US at the time.”

Hear the first work from the project, Standing In My Own Way (Part One) with modern LA legend Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, below. It’s a meditation on lost friendship, a patchwork of memories explored over a heart-breaking string arrangement from Miguel.

Holy Water Over Sons is released 26th November on Albert’s Favourites.
