The internet can be a daunting place at the best of times, and when it comes to music there’s a never ending rabbit hole of mixes, remixes, tracks, mixtapes and videos being uploaded on the daily. It’s physically impossible to be able to digest everything that is throw into the public consciousness, so we’ve taken time out to handpick the six freshest beats we’ve heard this week to make your life a bit easier. Kick back and enjoy them over the weekend.
The Avalanches – Frankie Sinatra
The Aussies are back. Their first album since 2000, Since I Left You is considered one of the finest Australian albums of all time. With their new album Wildflower, they bring Danny Brown and DOOM along for the ride in an ode to ‘ol’ blue eyes’. A sort of Balkan-big-beat track with incredible verses from the two American emcees. The video is also tight, go on, drink the kool aid .
Akala – Fire In The Booth PT4
Bars. No other words can be used to describe this. The Kentish Town emcee was a guest on Charlie Sloth’s show on BBC Radio 1Xtra last week where he delivers this unbelievably good freestyle over the notorious Panda beat, among others. Read our recent interview with Akala here.
De La Soul – Pain (feat. Snoop Dogg)
De La is back! After almost 12 years from their last official album, the NY trio return. Their sixth album And the Anonymous Nobody will be released in September and judging by the first single, Pain, it is going to be a bomb. Snoop Dogg features here for the first time with the Native Tongues’ group. Do we like it? Yessir!
Róisín Murphy – Ten Miles High
Lady Murphy and her seductive synths. We eagerly anticipate her new album, Take Her Up To Monto, coming out this July. Róisín directed the video for Ten Miles High herself. Simple, but it works so fine. Just like the song.
Vic Mensa – There’s Alot Going On
Powerful verses on this one, with props from Kanye to Kaytranada. Come on Vic, when is this first album finally dropping?
Tom Misch – Crazy Dream (feat. Loyle Carner)
Last but definitely not least is Tom from London, 20 year-old-producer-multi-instrumentalist-singer. Misch surprises us with the maturity of his work, covering both production and vocal duties on Crazy Dream featuring the fast emerging London rapper Loyle Carner. This is the second single from the upcoming Reverie E.P out July 15th.
