The cafe Tupac never realised opens in NYC

Last September, on the 20th anniversary of Tupac’s death, Californian restaurant Take 3 Burgers hosted a pop-up based on handwritten sketches left by the musician. Featuring the logo and a menu drawn by Tupac, the Powamekka Café served things like the “California Love Chicken Sandwich”, “Mac-and-Cheeseburger” and “Thug Passion cake pops”.

This weekend, Lower East Side Southern restaurant Sweet Chick is similarly paying homage to the late singer, by collaborating with Tupac’s estate. Open from April 7th to 9th, it will serve some of the rapper’s favourite dishes including gumbo, meatloaf, and “his cousin Jamala’s friend chicken wings”.

The restaurant, which is backed by Nas, will also display a carefully curated selection of his childhood photographs, poetry, posters, and album covers. They’re hoping to transport fans to the cafe Tupac envisioned as a place “4 those who wish 2 escape the worldz cold reality”.
